Blue song, mint royale (director: Edgar Wright) while the main aim of a music video is to promote the song in my opinion they can often act as short films in there own right, although often shorter and with less character and narrative development. this is evident in the music video for Blue Song; there is a clear short narrative of the getaway driver waiting for the waiting for the robbers to return but this is hardly developed, we could argue that he gets more into the dancing through the video but apart from this there is not much development in terms of character or narrative.
The Fly as a precursor to watching our first short film, The Fly, our Film class did some work on a music video, blue song by mint royale, and a feature film, baby driver. Both of these films had the same subject - a getaway driver - but in varied styles; this is useful as it gives us a point of comparison point. my next few blog posts will be about these films then about the fly itself.
short films and new filmmakers. I think that the style of short films can be very beneficial to new filmmakers. firstly the length of the film means less time can be committed to the film; this means non-professional filmmakers can maintain jobs or education while creating finished projects, it also allows them to have experience of multiple genres through many short films. the style can also present challenges such as fitting a satisfying story arch in a small space of time, getting this right could be a good way to demonstrate there screenplay writing ability.
short film definition. I've been thinking about my idea of what a short film is. initially my description of a short film would basically be a film which is shorter than a feature length film. the definition given by Wikipedia is;" A short film is any film not long enough to be considered a feature film. Although no consensus exists as to where that boundary is drawn, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences defines a short film as "an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits"."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUkXIgBHk8Q I haven't seen many short films in the past so i have watched a few to get a general idea of how an narrative can be shown in a much shorter space of time to a feature length film. i thought this film successfully conveyed character emotion and a pot (with a freaky twist) in a short amount of time and with minimal dialogue.
